On a Stick
LONDON E-Business Support Programme
Case Study: On a Stick, Rowena Lutu
Business Overview
On a Stick founder, Rowena Lutu, rediscovered her baking skills during maternity leave and launched her dessert business in June 2023, after noticing a growing demand for live dessert experiences. Her treats, themed “on a stick,” include waffles and fresh strawberries with a range of delicious toppings, have quickly become a favourite with clients across London and the Home Counties, appearing at offices, festivals, and events.
She has since expanded her range to include nationwide delivery of her moreish brownies and other trendy desserts, available through the business’s Instagram page. Rowena says, “The live dessert station is a great addition to your celebrations, allowing your guests to completely personalise their dessert and you to cater for their dietary needs. I spent time specialising in free-from baking and love making my catering as inclusive as possible - that includes in our mail order and click-and-collect services.”
Support to Grow
With time at a premium, Rowena was struggling to produce regular fresh content for her social media channels and wanted to explore ways to tailor her brand messaging to a professional audience as well as get expert advice on other ways to boost her digital marketing - so she enrolled on the LONDON E-Business Support Programme with LBP.
With regular 121 online meetings with LBP’s E-Business Adviser, Rowena was able to develop her digital marketing strategy across various platforms. Before long, she was producing regular Instagram content and making good use of social media scheduling tools to develop a calendar of posts to streamline and accelerate her process. This also enabled her to optimise peak times for her food business, by planning content for key dates and occasions such as Halloween and Christmas.
With improved LinkedIn, Instagram and Google Business profiles, as well as growing a mailing list for regular e-newsletters, Rowena was empowered to increase engagement with her customers and her broader business networks. She said: “This support has helped me tremendously! Equipped with a new digital understanding of how to interact with my customers on different platforms it has really helped me to connect with customers and clients!”
The impact of the support provided under the programme has meant that Rowena has started to reach her target audience - such as corporate event planners, wedding organisers, schools and businesses across various industries. Her newly acquired digital marketing expertise has enabled her to refine and highlight her high-quality, versatile product range whilst also adding to the business’s resilience and success.
