Page and Small is a local optician situated in the Charlton area of Greenwich. The family-owned business, originally established in 1993, became a limited company in 2012, and is run by Directors Abi Page and Ray Small.  Over the years, the optician has become a cornerstone of the community offering personalised and professional eye care services.  It has steadily built a reputation for quality and reliability and now employs a dedicated team of five skilled professionals.

Page and Small provides a range of services, including: comprehensive eye tests to assess and monitor vision health; fitting and supplying new eyewear tailored customers’ needs, and delivering a minor eye condition service for acute eye problems. The team prides itself on their warm, customer-focused approach.

 

Digital Challenges

Abi was frustrated with the business’s lack of online presence. Previously a lot of time and money had been invested in hiring a web developer to create a website for their business, however, when the website company went into administration they resorted to creating a basic Google website themselves. This lasted a few years, before Google stopped that service and they were then left without the online platform they needed to reach potential customers. This experience had left the team disheartened, and the absence of a website was beginning to affect their ability to grow their business in an increasingly digital world.

 

New Website

Abi decided to seek expert support to address this issue, so she enrolled on the LONDON E-Business Support Programme with South East Enterprise and was introduced to Adviser, Adiel Khan.  Recognising the importance of having an online presence, Adiel’s recommendation was straightforward: to prioritise the creation of a professionally designed, user-friendly website that could showcase their services and act as a digital storefront for their business. He explained how a well-designed website would not only attract new customers but also serve as a hub for promoting their services, including eye tests, new eyewear, and minor eye care solutions.

The team was coached on how to build a website using a user-friendly website platform with the facility to update and make amendments themselves.  Additionally, they were given guidance on setting up an SSL certificate and connecting their domain to the website. Abi said:

“The support has made a huge difference. Without going into a long story, we haven’t had a proper
website in almost 10 years and I had almost given up on getting one, as it was overwhelming whilst trying to focus on my day job. Adiel’s support meant we now have a website that I’m in control of and I now have the skills to update it regularly, I’m over the moon!”

 

Abi plans to continue to develop the website and grow the business. Other growth goals include expanding the basement of the premises to build a new consulting room and hiring a new optometrist.
